1962 Tech Sequence

The following text for pictures below was done by the editors of POPULAR SCIENCE MONTHLY - FEBRUARY 1962

How To Protect Yourself From A Knife-wielder:

GRAB HIS RIGHT WRIST with your left hand as you push his knife hand up, while still holding on to his shoulder with your right hand (above). Now move your right hand from the knife-weilder's shoulder to his right elboow. PUSHING DOWN ON THAT ELBOW keeps his knife arm straight. Pulling his wrist toward you applies a very drastic shoulder lock. Unless your assailant drops his knife, you can easily dislocare his shoulder.

AS THE KNIFER RAISES HIS BLADE, parry the blow by striking his forearm with the edge of your own left forearm (center). Quickly seize his clothing near his right shoulder with your right hand. Then with a strong but smooth movement, pull his right shoulder toward you while also pushing his right (knife) hand upward and away from you (right).

The following text as reinterpeted by K.I.L.:

Knife Defense Against A Man In A Three Piece Suit:

1 and 2) As attacker approaches with his knife, place your arm as close to the knife as possible. Assume his arm will not slide up and stab you in the neck.
3) Then place right hand on his shoulder and grab his jacket and pull. Continue to assume his arm will not slide up and stab you in the neck. Note: Do not at anytime strike or hit him in any way. This could cause the attacker to get angry and maybe even react which would render your lock useless.

4 and 5) Fortunately your assailant is smaller and weaker and you are able to bend him over. At this point the assailant will drop his knife for no good reason. This will then allow you and your attacker to walk away unharmed.
